Walter Astral is the duo formed by Tristan Thomas, also known as Zaspéro and captain of Ovhal44, and Tino Gelli, singer of Polycool. Their two seemingly distant musical universes share a worship of the dreamlike and the absurd, and harmonize in their mystical trances.
Walter Astral's music combines psychedelic pop with the world of techno and acid. Tristan's drum machines and acid bass blend with the retro sound of Tino's guitar and a banjo so old it produces quarter tones like a saz. Their hybrid musical style finds its influences in King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Flavien Berger, Altin Gün and Charanjit Singh.
After being spotted at the Inouïs du Printemps de Bourges in 2022, and supported by FAIR in 2023, Walter Astral has set up its hut in the four corners of France (and beyond). The project continues its tour in 2023/2024, playing a sold-out Maroquinerie and Trabendo. The band performed at La Cigale on March 15, 2025.
Their debut album “Eclipse” has been available since January 24, 2025. The EP “Jour”, part 1 of this album, has been available since February 2024, followed by part 2 “Nuit” in September 2024. This album is an astral odyssey, a dreamlike saga that contrasts and combines the solar and lunar celestial bodies. From dawn to dusk, from zenith to nadir, from new moon to full moon, Walter Astral plays with contrasts both narratively and musically.
