The Populists is the club-focused project of French DJ, producer and composer Yan Wagner. Since 2014, he has released EPs and singles on French and European labels such as Lumière Noire, Zone, DGTL, Space Factory, Detriti, Ritmo Fatale and XXX, and has produced remixes for artists including Scratch Massive, Marc Houle, Bagarre (whose track Le Gouffre quickly became an underground classic played by an astronomical number of international DJs), Molecule and Kid Francescoli.
The Populists’ music sits somewhere between New Beat, Italo/Dark Disco and a deviant form of Acid House reminiscent of Paranoid London or Green Velvet. Acidité was released in December 2024 on the Dutch label DGTL, featuring a remix by German producer Lauer, resident DJ at the Robert Johnson club. His latest EP (vinyl + digital), Extrême Intensité, was released on the young London-based label DeadBeat Records and includes a remix by Hong Kong producer Mr Ho, co-founder with Luca Lozano of the house label Klasse Wrecks.
