Leenalchi is one of the most distinctive bands on South Korea’s independent music scene. Led by composer and musician Jang Young Gyu, the group reinvents pansori, a traditional Korean form of musical storytelling, through a hypnotic blend of powerful grooves, deep bass, vocals and rhythms. With four singers, two bassists, drums and keyboards, and no guitar, Leenalchi creates a sound at the crossroads of funk, experimental pop and collective trance.
Also a film composer (Train to Busan, The Strangers, The Good, the Bad, the Weird) and founding member of SsingSsing, Jang Young Gyu has helped bring Korean traditional music to audiences far beyond the country’s borders. After making their mark on stages in Korea and internationally, Leenalchi are now expanding their presence abroad, with appearances at Roskilde, Fusion, Dour, Pohoda and Clockenflap, and will perform at Trans Musicales 2026.
